1. When we first opened our doors, it was not legal to sell cannabis in the Upper Peninsula.

When we first received our Michigan MMJ card in 2012, Michigan’s cannabis laws were significantly different than they are now. Cannabis was still illegal for all uses in many areas of the state, including the upper peninsula dispensary. It wasn’t until a few months later that Michigan voters overwhelmingly passed Proposal 1, approving legalization for some medical conditions in the U.P. and a few other select areas in other parts of the state. We did not sell any cannabis at our U.P. dispensary throughout this time. But we knew that the day would come when cannabis would be legal in the Upper Peninsula, and it was a fascinating prospect. 

2. It is still illegal for cannabis to be grown in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

When Proposal 1 was passed, it set aside a few specific areas of the state for limited Michigan medical marijuana growing operations. Growing cannabis is still illegal throughout the entire Upper Peninsula. Because cultivation and manufacturing of cannabis products are not legal here, we have to legally import all of our products into the U.P., which can make things more complicated and expensive here than elsewhere in Michigan. Still, we are proud to provide patients with high-quality prescribed medication every day at our U.P. dispensary.

3. We have one of the more unique shopping experiences anywhere in Michigan.

The Upper Peninsula is a highly unique area of the state. It’s a place where highly valued hard work and rugged independence, and its people are generally self-sufficient, resourceful, and self-reliant.
