This seems to be a new, but still very old, trend in the self-awareness community. To be more specific, a lot of the self-awareness tools we used to use didn’t require any conscious effort, but rather were automatic. But now a lot of them are trying to do something more than just “just happen.” A lot of these methods are self-guided and self-learning.
The idea of “self-guided” is to make a process of self-awareness. The problem with this method is that it makes it easy to do but difficult to do. You will get a lot of the same results, but with less effort, if you use “self-guided” methods. For example, some of the self-awareness tools we used to use were like a video game.
The problem with this method is that you don’t think about the problem and you can’t do anything about it. You have to just rely on your instincts and instincts alone. This is because you cannot think about the problem, you only think about responding. But then you have the problem again, because it has already happened. In the end, you just make more mistakes because you’re not thinking about the problem.
Taliab takes this a step further by creating a set of tools that have a built-in “checklist” mechanism. It’s like a game, only the players don’t know they are just playing a game. When you do something wrong, you just check that “checklist,” which tells you everything is going well, and you go on to the next thing.
It’s like, hey, it looks like we’re doing great. But when you just start doing the thing you’re supposed to do, you’ll fail, and you’re sure there’s a problem.
