Zack Ewing’s blog is a place for me to keep up with the latest and greatest news and information about my art. I’m currently working on a project called “The Dream of a Home”, and will post about it soon here.
In this project, I’m focusing on ideas from my recent book “The Artist’s Way” which is a collection of essays from authors like Robert M. Pirsig, Joseph Campbell, and Hans Haacke and which provides a framework for understanding creativity.
It would seem that creativity is one of those things that we can understand, but not quite understand. It’s not as though you can describe to someone that you are creative like you can a tree is creative or a person is creative. We can tell you that you are creative because you are able to perceive new ways of thinking and being as opposed to your own. But I think it goes deeper than that and is something that cannot be fully understood.
One thing that seems to be overlooked is that creativity is not the same thing as creativity. We think of creativity as the ability to think of something better than you could. And in some cases, this can be very true. But creativity can also be a different thing entirely. In fact, one of the most common misconceptions I’ve found about creativity is that it is a single thing: a single act or single process that allows you to create something better than you could.
This is what I call the “creativity trap.” In this trap, we get trapped in the idea that creativity is a single act or a single process that allows you to create something better than you could. If you want to create a better house, you gotta go through a lot of steps. You wanna do it all yourself? You must be crazy. But it is not crazy.
Well, yes and no. The truth of the matter is that there are many ways to create something better than you could. I’ve been in a lot of houses that have just been built with nothing but paper and pencils. These are projects that take many different skills and approaches. But they are all, in my mind, creative projects.
The first step in creating a better house is to create the right environment. You have to create the right room. You have to create the right design pattern. You have to create the right furniture. You have to create the right lighting. You have to create the right space to entertain and relax. You have to create that right feel, the right atmosphere, the right ambiance.
So how does one create the right atmosphere, space, furniture, lighting, and ambiance? The answer is, you must first create the right mood. The right mood is a feeling that is created by the right environment. So it is the right environment that creates the right mood.
The right mood is created by the right environment to which the right furniture, lighting, and ambiance can be adapted. So as you can imagine, I have a few of these ideas.
